2023-2024 Accolades
UIL Concert & Sightreading
The Wind Symphony, Honors Band, and Symphonic Band participated in the UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation in March. They worked incredibly hard on their programs and performed beautifully for the judges. The Symphonic Band received Superior ratings for their on-stage performance, and Excellent ratings for their sightreading performance. Both the Honors Band and Wind Symphony was rewarded for their efforts with unanimous Superior division ratings from all 6 judges, resulting in Sweepstakes Awards! We are so proud of all the students for their hard work in preparation for these incredible performances.
Beginner Band Solo Contest Success!
Over 2 weeks in March, 103 of our Beginner Band students participated in their very first solo contest. They practiced their solos for weeks, dressed to impress, and fought through nerves to perform by themselves for a judge for the very first time. We are so proud of their hard work and courage! They were all rewarded for their efforts and we came home from the contests with 95 first division medals and 8 second division ribbons. We are the most proud of our students for encouraging and supporting each other, facing their fears, and for putting in so much extra hard work and time to grow their musical skills! Congratulations Beginner Band!
Advanced Band Solo & Ensemble Success!
On Saturday, February 17, 142 of our Advanced Band students performed their solo for a judge at the GISD Solo & Ensemble Contest at Austin Academy. We are proud to say that we came home with 120 first division medals, 19 second division ribbons, 19 students nominated for outstanding soloist, and 4 students winning the outstanding soloist award for the entire contest! This is more medals and outstanding soloists than any other school in GISD!
We want to especially congratulate our Outstanding Soloist winners:
Madison Nguyen on clarinet, Leo Furr on alto saxophone, Mosi Solis on French horn, and Rylan Covey on percussion.
We are very proud of all of our students and want to congratulate them all for being brave, working hard, and representing our school so well!

GISD All-District and TMEA Region 3 All-Region Band Auditions
Throughout the entire fall semester, our students learned, practiced, and perfected their scales and music for the GISD All-District and TMEA Region 3 All-Region Band auditions. We are so proud of the students for their preparation, for having the courage to audition, and for how well they represented our school. We had a record of 37 students earn a spot in one of the All-District bands, and a school record of 35 students earn a spot in one of the All-Region bands! Congratulations to the following students for earning a spot:
Hudson Bands Make GISD History!
All 3 of our Advanced Bands attended the UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation the week of April 1, 2019. All 3 bands worked very hard to prepare their music and practiced their sightreading skills all year long. They all had beautiful stage performances and did a wonderful job in the sightreading room. We are thrilled to say that for the first time in school history, ALL 3 HUDSON BANDS EARNED THE SWEEPSTAKES AWARD AT UIL! This is incredible and not an easy feat to accomplish. We were the only band at our entire contest who received this honor and one of only 3 bands in the entire region. We are so proud of these students and impressed with how much they have grown musically over the course of this year. Congratulations!!!
First EVER GISD All-Star Band Members!
In April of 2023, 70 of our Beginner Band students competed against over 500 other GISD beginner band students to earn a chair in the first EVER GISD Beginner All-Star Band.
They prepared scales and an etude and performed in front of 3 judges to earn a spot in one of the bands. We are so proud of how hard they worked, how much strength they showed by showing up, and for the amazing amount of growth they gained as musicians throughout the process. We can't wait to hear their performance in a few weeks!
Congratulations to the 43 students who earned a chair in the band - the most from any school in GISD!
